About the Art:
“Joy” is the ninth color pencil drawing in my steampunk themed Mannequin series. The goal of this series is to demonstrate emotions and emotional subjects using inanimate mannequins. This piece started with the desire to create a mannequin that was reaching through herself (an idea I thought was just really cool) and grew into a little story. The mannequin is dancing with joy as butterflies representing worry, anxiety, and sin are released from her lantern. The key that unlocked the cage is shaped like a cross representing the salvation brought to us by Jesus Christ. Even though joy and happiness are often used interchangeably, they aren’t the same. Happiness is based on temporary circumstances, but joy is based in faith. One can have their entire world falling apart around them, but still retain their joy.
